When India’s busiest film composer — he has been recording about one song a week in his voice for over six months — takes off to America and Canada on a month-long concert tour, it surely is a serious business.
“It is the first time I am performing on this scale before live audiences,” says Himesh Reshammiya. “I have performed before fans in several cities in India and the Gulf, but I believe the American experience is going to be even more electrifying.”
“It is a new challenge for me, and I am performing with all humility,” he continues. “Live audiences are quite demanding. They shower you with love and admiration, but only if you have done a very good job.” His hit songs such as Aashiq Banaya Aapne, he says, ought to sound better live. “And that means I should also be a good performer,” he continues. “Audiences are not interested in watching singers who stand stiffly and sing for three hours.”

Himesh Reshammiya’s first US tour is a resounding success . The first of the 18-city concerts in Atlanta held on the night of 28 July was was an unqualified sell-out. The concert was attended by a record crowd of 7,000 people. The lasts successful Bollywood concert (Temptations) in Atlanta was attended by approximately 4,000 people.
And it’s been the same story everywhere. “Anything I say will seem like self-projection. You have to be here in the US to know what I’m experiencing. I can’t believe I connect so well with the crowds. This one-on-one with a live audience has been the best experience of my career so far,” Himesh says from the US.

He might not be the most popular Khan, but he is gradually making it there. With over five films in various stages of production this year, Zayed Khan is looking at consolidating his position in the fiercely-competitive film world. We cornered the ‘Rocky’ star in a tête-à -tête.
Advisor Himesh!
“My wife is my strongest critic, but she’s a bigger SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) fan,” smiles Khan, who married Malaika Parekh last year. His father though doesn’t react much on his career. “Earlier dad used to advise me, but now he smiles and doesn’t say much.” Advice also comes from friend and composer Himesh Reshammiya. “I’m close to Himesh; he even advises me on which films to sign and which to avoid. ‘Ahista Ahista’ – now this is one flick that deserves to be promoted far more aggressively and should get its fare share of audience. Why? Because the film has honesty and simplicity written all over it!
There have been number of flicks that have released and turned out to be successful this year. ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Malamaal Weekly’, ‘Fanaa’, ‘Krrish’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ and most recently ‘Golmaal’ are just to name a few. While the rest of the year looks good too due to number of high profile films coming one after another, one certainly feels from the heart that a film like ‘Ahista Ahista’ doesn’t get lost in the crowd.
