Himeshji: Interview

Published by Jem at 5:54 pm under HR Interviews

Competing with his alter ego

Despite criticism for his nasal songs and ‘wars’ with other musicians, Himesh has become a worldwide name… but not before he learnt a few lessons

I aim to be better than myself and not others.

I began my musical career with the notion that to excel I’ll have to outdo the rest. Two years later my father told me that to grow I didn’t need to run down my competitors.

It’s important to count your blessings everyday

. During my US tour, earlier this year, a mentally disabled boy, Ali, gave my life a new meaning. His mother told me that my music moved her son and was among the few things he reacted to. Those words were my biggest reward.

God makes me feel that I am blessed.

When I’m composing music, there is divine intervention somewhere. It’s this sixth sense that helps me be ahead of the times, as far as my work is concerned. That everything is planned and pre-destined – has induced a calmer, much happier state of mind in me.

I admit it when I am wrong.

I don’t shy away from my mistakes. Recently I hurt Ashaji by making a statement on RD Burman and she said that she wanted to slap me for it. I have apologised to her many times for I know I was at fault.

It pays to remember that perfection’s hard won.

I have switched fields and I know that it takes time to discover the real attributes of your personality. Take your time and remember to believe in your strengths and weaknesses, converting negatives into positives.

hi everybody, happy new year and happy makar shankranti to all. i’m sorry to start with a bad note. i am very angry with the awards ceremony that is happening this 2007. Mr. Himesh had done wonders last year. I AM EXPECTING HIM TO GET THE BEST SINGER AWARDS + BEST MUSIC DIRECTOR. HIS POWER WAS RECOGNISED ONLY IN dUBAI THAT’S IT!!! so why was he not nomited for best singer category??? WHY??? AND ON TOP OF THAT HE DIDN’T GET A SINGLE AWARD!!! PLEASE COMMENT ON THAT.

  11. Jemon 12 Jan 2007 at 10:39 pm

Hi anju…there are a lot more award ceremonies to come this year……so let’s hope Himeshji gets some more recognition this year!!! Jem :D
