Himesh Reshammiya songs inspire deejays to television show hosts, but his biggest fans apparently, are autorickshaw drivers. Working on this assumption, the singer-songwriter-actor has enlisted six autorickshaw drivers for a vital pre-climax shoot in his film, in Germany. The entire sequence will cost Rs 75 lakh, and presumablythis is the first time that autorickshaws will be seen on German roads.
“The pre-climax of the film is integral to the love story,” he says. But why the autorickshaws? “It’s a tribute to my fans, many of whom are rickshaw drivers. Unfortunately, I can’t divulge any more details at this point,” says Himesh.

Javed Saab talking about working with Himeshji…
What is special about the album Namastey London? What should the audience look forward to?
You know when Vipul Shah and Himesh Reshammiya came to me and they said they want me to do a film for them, for a moment I was rather apprehensive because Himesh Reshammiya is doing extremely well with a certain brand of music he is identified with. So I wondered how much room I’ll get in that kind of music to participate or contribute. But to my relief and as a matter of fact and happiness, Himesh opened with a remark which was very consoling. He said that I have come here not because I want just another film song but because I want the kind of writing you do. You don’t have to bother what the music director wants or the Film Company expects or what distributors would want and so on. You just forget about it, and write songs the way you want to write. That was very comforting and it was really a pleasure working with him. He is a person who is tremendously enthusiastic about his work. He is on a high and wants to experiment, he wants to do new things and I think his music is doing extremely well. It is a good combination of writing and hardcore beat at the same time. The music and the tunes are mostly from shastriya sangeet but they are treated in such a way that you won’t realize it.

Though he has been around since 1998 and hit real big-time in 2003 with Tere Naam, the Himesh Reshammiya juggernaut hit the highway only with the late-2005 release of Aashiq Banaya Aapne that started his ‘vocal’ epidemic. The next one year was virtually a Himesh blitzkrieg, which was aborted by a savvy Himesh cutting short his workload, quitting unimportant films and becoming ‘choosy’. Before that happened, however, the earthy composer experimented by signing Namastey London with Javed Akhtar.
What was special about working with Javed Akhtar?
I was always looking forward to the day when I could work with him. This time, thanks to Vipulji, things fell into place. Namastey London is the right vehicle for this, as we need verse with depth. Vipulji understands good lyrics and it was a very, very great experience working on the seven songs, and the Mehfil Mix album of unplugged songs for which Javedsaab wrote fresh nazms and poetry just for the songs. Javedsaab of course is a living legend and his sense of poetry is amazing.

Hello All
Here is my review of a very special day – Friday 16th February 2007 when I finally got the chance to meet Himeshji (yes the man himself!!) at the Zee Carnival!!!
The day started with seeing Himeshji at the SaReGaMaPa challenge 2007 auditions where Himeshji shortlisted 4 contestants (2 out of 4 will be chosen to go to India) & it was amazing to see Himeshji so close on stage, once again! He entertained us all with singing “A a aashiqui mein teri…” from 36 China Town, a few lines of “Tera Surroor” & an impromptu version of “Aap Ki Khatir” as requested by his fans in the audience! It was truly amazing to see him perform again on stage!!!His performance was mindblowing!!!:D

Himesh Reshammiya says,”A struggling singer is truly benefited only when he gets a song that gets him noticed. Today, item songs are excellent material for promoting struggling or stagnating talents. That is why Shaan (Nikamma kiya/Kya Dil Ne Kahaa) and Gayatri Iyer (Mohabbat hai mirchi/Chura Liya Hai Tumne) gained from my songs. Of course Himesh’s most successful discovery is himself. His unique voice may be admired, lambasted or ridiculed but it is discussed widely and sells hugely. Himesh’s vocals have been the selling-point of albums like Aashique Banaya Aapne, Aksar, Tom Dick And Harry, 36 China Town and many others.

Despite the thudding rhythms, Himesh Reshammiya’s chartbuster hits are often ballads, and mostly sad.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, rediff.com decided to ask the bearded crooner his 5 favourite Valentine songs:
Suroor (The entire album):
Every song of the album has been a hit. Every month Himesh released a video, and each did better than the other.
It was actually this album that inspired him to make his acting debut in Aap Ka Suroor — The Moviee, releasing on July 6.
Aashiq Banaya Aapne (title track):
The first time Himesh appeared in a video was with the Aashiq Banaya Aapne title song.
The film didn’t do as well, but the music of the film established Reshammiya’s ‘rockstar’ status.
