Of late you have been very focused on your Bollywood career. So what made you take up the show Music Ka Mahamuqabla on Star Plus?

Producer Gajendra Singh, Star Plus and the chance to share space with five other musicians who have immense talent. It is going to be a competition between six teams and like cricket, there will be a winner and a loser at the end of each episode. The concept of the show is very unique and it is being a shot at a stadium.

What will you be doing on the show?
I am the captain of my team, which comprises of Vineet, Raja Hasan, Aishwarya and another new girl or boy, on whom we are yet to decide. I will be mentoring these talents and will encourage them to evolve as unconventional singers, because I have realised that conventional voices do not have a chance in this industry.

Radio arrives on Thursday, 3rd December, instead of seeing a conventional Friday release. While the makers are executing promotional plans for the last few days before the film hits the screens, they have already hosted some hush-focus group screenings. While Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots was pretty much in news for the similar ‘feedback-seeking’ exercise that was done a few weeks back, Himesh and Co. have already held three such screenings since 21st November.

Himesh Reshammiya believes in calling the shots on the sets. This was apparent while the composer-actor was cutting a promo for a new reality show Music Ka Mahamuqabla, which airs on Star Plus.

Mere decisions
Even though the director for the shoot was Bappa Aditya, it was Himesh who was making all the decisions. Right from lighting up a frame, to deciding his look, and giving instructions to the cinematographer, Himesh ended up ghost-directing the promo.

Many Himesh fans feel the same too. After all, Himesh gave 36 hit songs in a row as a music director and singer. Then all of a sudden, in 2007, he left music director to pursue a career in acting. The only time he scores music is when they’re picturised in his movies.

Background of the Song

“Rafa Dafa” can be said to be a very “unique” composition of Himeshji. It is unique in it’s style & also length (2.43mins). The style of the composition bears a very strong Western influence, with the use of the rhythm & the Saxophone (which are both not commonly used in general Bollywood songs). The promo of Rafa Dafa shows the moments that Vivaan & Shanaya have spent together, and the song talks about not being able to forget these moments at all.

The show is produced by Gajendrra Siingh’s Saibaba Telefilms and is tipped to launch in December. This is going to be a big ticket show and according to sources, Star Plus is pinning its hope on it to generate the much needed TRPs during the weekends.

According to the source, the show boasts of some famous music directors like Himesh Reshammiya, Shankar Mahadevan, Mika and Mohit Chauhan. The show which was earlier titled as MPL (Music Premiere League) will go in for a title change as Sony is currently airing a dance based show titled DPL (Dance Premiere League).
