Focus-Groups for “Radio”!
Radio arrives on Thursday, 3rd December, instead of seeing a conventional Friday release. While the makers are executing promotional plans for the last few days before the film hits the screens, they have already hosted some hush-focus group screenings. While Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots was pretty much in news for the similar ‘feedback-seeking’ exercise that was done a few weeks back, Himesh and Co. have already held three such screenings since 21st November.
Ishaan Trivedi, director of Radio that stars Sonal Sehgal and Shenaz Treasuryvala as the leading ladies confirms, “We wanted to be quiet about the whole affair rather than making it a media event. The purpose was to get some genuine feedback and hence select people, from all walks of life, were invited to comment on the final product.”
As turned out to be the case, the film was given a Thumbs Up by the urban youth (the film’s target audience) that appreciated the manner in which the film dealt with today’s relationships, where issues like chemistry and compatibility are pretty much in the forefront.
“I was clear about one thing that I didn’t want anyone to go unnecessarily gaga about the whole affair”, confesses Ishaan, “There is no point in doing that because the real junta will anyways announce their verdict once the film hits the screens. So, I invited some of my closest friends and colleagues to watch the film and be extremely blunt about what they felt.”
Meanwhile, Himesh Reshammiya is doing his own to ensure that Radio gets it’s due at the box office. While he is happy about the profit zone that the film has entered, courtesy all the pre-release rights bringing in the moolah, he is also travelling to Shirdi for the blessings. “I would be visiting Shirdi on the day Radio releases. Thursday is anyways Saibaba’s day so it can’t get more auspicious than this”, confirms Himesh, “I am praying to God that the film works for all of us.”
Confident about the prospects of the film which would be seeing a limited release even in multiplexes, Himesh comments, “We have tried to do something very fresh with the subject, treatment and lingo in the film. I have tried to be as natural as possible and Ishaan has done a fabulous job. Moreover, Vivan’s character is someone with whom audiences can easily relate to. I have complete confidence in Radio clicking with the audiences.”

Nice to know that himesh is going to shirdi. I will also suggest Himesh to go Siddhi Vinayak and Maha Laxmi in Mumabi. Thursday is also Margsheesh which is day of Mahalaxmi.
Himesh I have heard in one of the interview that you get in controversy because of planets. I can suggest you one of the most efficient ways of getting Good Luck and Success in life. This is the best remedy that all the pandits and pujaris trust and it has always worked.
Himesh you can listen or if you know sanskrit than read Vishnu sahasranamam.
Also You can read Durga Shaptshati for getting energy and power. Argala Stotra is best. Since Durga has three forms Lord Saraswati (Goddess of Vidya and Music), Lord Laxmi ( Goddess of wealth and prosperity) and lord Kali ( Goddess of power and strength). Also the three goddess blessing is derived from Durga Shaptshati. You are Gujju and I am sure you know the importance of this book. This book is ultimate source of power.
Vishnu Sahasranamam is the best way of removing obstacles from life.

Isshaan Trivedi, who made his debut as a director with the Juhi Chawla-Irrfan starrer 7 1/2 Phere, is ready with Radio. Days prior to its release, Tollywood’s Rudranil Ghosh has alleged that Isshaan has bootlegged his script of Hello Dear to create Radio. The matter is up in the air but the director thinks Rudranil is just hot air. Excerpts:
How did you come up with the concept of making a film on a radio jockey?
My first film dwelled upon behind the scenes action in the visual media. I thought I’d make a trilogy with two more films — one on the broadcast media and the other on the print media. When I first met Himesh, I had a couple of ideas. He suggested if I could come up with an idea about a radio jockey. Since I had headed programming at various channels, the subject seemed appropriate. What struck me as interesting was that while RJs create a world of their own for their listeners; their personal lives are not half as exciting. RJ Vivan Shah is a wannabe singer. He solves others’ problems by fixing them on air, but his own remain unsolved. Just out of a bitter divorce, he is commitment phobic. To make matters worse, his wife is also on the rebound.
How much was Himesh involved with giving direction to the script?
We worked in tandem. While I wrote the script, he offered his creative inputs. Such interactions used to happen during the days of Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. We don’t have idiot actors any longer.
There are allegations of Radio’s script being filched from a Bengali script…
I’m hearing this for the first time. I’d be pleased if a case is filed against us. That will give the prosecutor adequate
publicity. Mine is an original script, not a single line is a lift. While doing our workshops, I was told that there is indeed a movie called Radio. I got hold of a DVD and found that it has no parallels to a radio jockey.
Does this allegation smack of a publicity hungry celeb?
I don’t know him at all. Only 20 guys have watched my film. I’d request him to first watch my film and then decide whether any bit has been copied. Promos stating that the film is about a small-town RJ who plays shrink on air doesn’t make my film a copy. As for the name of the character, I was initially supposed to call her Sia after my friend’s daughter’s name. In the late 80s, scripts used to be pinched. That doesn’t happen any more. Fifteen years ago, my friend — Urmi— had also got a compensation of Rs 18 lakh when someone stole her script. It’s difficult nowadays.
Has anyone ever levelled such allegations against you?
I had written 7 1/2 Phere in seven days. A friend of mine had once claimed that the film was based on his idea. I invited him to watch the film. After the screening, he said that he had been given a wrong report. People commission me to write scripts now. It’s important for a creative person to protect his intellectual rights by registering the script before complaining. Give this actor my number, just so that he can give me his feedback once he’s watched my movie.
