Himeshji: Interview!
You can’t help but admire Himesh Reshammiya’s confidence and resilience. While any other actor may have been majorly disappointed by three consecutive flops, Himesh is convinced that with his next film, Kajrare, he will win over both critics and audiences.
And he has a solid reason to believe so. Given that he became a singing sensation after a slew of album hits, he doesn’t expect to become a superstar overnight. Slow and steady seems to be his mantra, and he is determined to finish the race as a winner.
In a freewheeling conversation, the singer, music director and actor spoke to us about his approach to his work, the support of his fans, and how he deals with box office failures.
On not being considered a hero
I am already well known as a singer and music director. I have more than 100 songs to my credit. It took me some time to get this recognition. Finally, talent receives its due recognition. I am considered a hero too by my fans. Recognition as a brilliant singer came my way after singing more than 100 songs in varied ways. So how can I get recognition as an actor so soon? I have just three films to my credit; I will have to do at least 50 films to achieve the same kind of adulation as an actor.
On his signature musical style
I have never created an aura about myself by getting undue publicity. I believe in keeping a low profile. My folks feel that I have gained expertise in both singing and acting. I will surely gain recognition as as actor too some day. I’m in no hurry.
On his fan-base
I think mostly the youth above the age of 23 are my fans. I get many fan mails from one and all. I get appreciation for singing and my on-screen performances. One of my fans is a boy named Ali. He is mentally disabled. He lives in Chicago and loves listening to my songs. His father often writes to me stating that his son shows signs of mobility as he listens to my music. I had specially been to Chicago to meet them. It was heartrending to hear the parents say that Ali complies with everything they say – be it eating or anything else they ask of him – as long as my songs are played for him.
On being arrogant and self-obsessed
Actually, I fought for the right things in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the reality show. People may think feel I am arrogant, but trying to ensure people get what they deserve is not wrong. I am blessed to have been gifted with my voice and acting skills. I respect whatever capabilities I have and I am neither arrogant nor self-obssessed. People will have to change their opinion today or tomorrow about me. I am a simpleton who believes in working hard and achieving success. My work speaks for me more than anything else.
On not concentrating on his obvious talent, music
I have already made a mark in the musical domain and now I am concentrating on acting too. Being a businessman, I feel that it is better to have a full package; I think I possess that – singing, acting, music direction. This brings in a lot of benefit to me. I don’t prefer being only a singer as I am over exposed in the field of singing. Why not carry forward the whole beneficial package that I possess?
On not singing for a movie that he is not acting in
Let me elaborate on the previous point I made. Too much of everything is not good. Hence, I want to combine my efforts in both singing and acting. I am confident that my next release, Kajrare, will be a hit.
On failure at the box office
What is a hit and a flop, when I say that I have got the money that I had invested in a movie? All over the country, almost 162 critics have written positive reviews about my film Radio. Generally, log doosro ki taang kheenchte hai. They derive pleasure in pulling others down and creating a negative aura about them. I trust my capabilities and potential and will strive to gain recognition as an actor very soon. I have just started, I am just three films-old; have patience till I make it big on the silver screen.

that is not a new news, i saw this very same article on planetradiocity.com about one month ago. it was posted very shortly after RADIO film release.
so this is an old news.
also this article writer at planetradiocity is a fool, it says 3 flops, absolutely no.
AAp KA SUROOR was a hit at box office and we all know about that.
Due to the hit of AKS, HR got 3 films offer deal from Bhushan Kumar and was offered films by other producers too.
I will very soon post absolutely new news regarding KAJRAREE very soon within days.

A R Rahman wanted Himesh ji to sing a song for him-which HR denied the request,
it maybe a dream, a long shot dreams of many singers to get a chance to sing for Rahman SAAB’s music but HR did not need Rahman Saab.
SHANKAR says recently , it is a big honor and happy to compete against HR as HR is a hit composer and singer with so many hits on MKMM during their match.
SHAAN says, HR’s music and songs are so popular that his kids and himself too listen’s to his music/songs often during an interview regarding Himeshji for his interview with in KOFEE WITH KARAN.

KAJRAREE shooting stared all the way from mid 2008 when HR was doing karzz.
RADIO was shot brand new in april of 2009.
NEW LOVE STORY shooting started also mid 2008 and mostly finished in 2009.
ishq unplugged shooting HAPPENED EARLY 2009 just before RADIO.
So there is no doubt HR has sung his normal rockstar style high pitched songs in those films but as HR said recently, he has also done non high pitched new singing style in all those films.

He began his career with Rules – Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula and Imtiaz Ali’s debut film Socha Na Tha, but it was only after Radio that he has really got going as a lyricist. Subrat Sinha will continue writing songs, but he has larger goals as well
Based out of New Delhi, Subrat Sinha has nevertheless had a fascinating career in television and the movies – and one could quip that he has now come back to Radio! “My wife is a big-name journalist. Delhi is our home and I have done a lot of work despite this. I travel back and forth when I have work. Right now I am in Mumbai working on a new film with Himesh (Reshammiya)ji that I will write and direct besides writing lyrics in it. But there are times when I have worked by tele-conference, like writing all the lyrics for last year’s Vinay Pathak comedy Straight which had music by Sagar Desai of Bheja Fry fame.”
Parvati Balagopalan, who directed Straight, is an old associate, says Subrat. “I wrote all the songs except one for her debut film Rules – Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, my own first release. I have also done another film with her.”
Socha Na Tha had two songs Mera tumhara and O yaara rab written by him, after which he worked on the beautiful Tumse yoon milenge from Vikram Bhatt’s Ankahee with Pritam. “Pritam’s an old friend. 90 percent of my work as a lyricist for television serials have been with Pritam,” says Subrat. “This was a tune composed for a serial that was never recorded but remained with me. I reminded him of it when we were working on this film and I wrote the words to it for the situation.”
That Subrat is no average talent – he has just won the Stardust award for Piya jaise laadoo in Radio – is clear from the brilliant writing. “Tumse yoon milenge humne socha na tha aur yeh zindagi mehkegi tumhari baahon mein is a complete everyday sentence written to a complex tune,” says Subrat with justified pride.
Subrat’s work on television, however, is not restricted to lyrics and is distinguished in its own way. “I have written Sara Akash, Gubbare and Astitva as a scriptwriter besides doing lyrics for shows like Kkavyanjali. Milie, Yeh Meri Life Hai and others.” he says.
But Subrat’s greatest recognition came when he went to Jakarta for almost two years by invitation. “Television channels there regularly remake our serials and I was one of the Indian writers called there to translate them.”
After he returned, Subrat also has done Abhijeet’s album Lamba and films like 7-1/2 Phere, Aamras and Maruti Mera Dosst. “But my major breaks came when I was assigned to write Ishq Unplugged. That’s when I met Himeshji. Sameerji was already in as a lyricist. It so happened that Pritam and Himesh were together on Zee’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Pritam told him that I wrote songs too. Himeshji was surprised and gave me some tunes, and when I wrote lyrics to them, he told me that I was writing the songs of Radio, which is not my script though.”
Comparing the two most consistent music makers of today’s time, Subrat says, “Pritam is still more of a friend, which is why I have no complaints that we have not worked together for over three years. Himeshji is very encouraging and immensely supportive. He has grown as an actor with Radio and as composers, both are tremendous. Radio was an incredible experience – three of my songs, my favourite Piya jaise laadoo, Rafaa dafaa which has a complex structure again and Teri meri dosti ka aasmaan were written first, and Himeshji composed the tunes on the spot!”
Subrat has not exactly had heavy poetic ambitions. “I have read Ghalib, and have had a fascination for the history of Indian cinema and music. I am an avid fan of Gulzar, Sahirsaab, Majroohsaab, Shailendra, Anand Bakshi, Rajendra Krishan and Raja Mehndi Ali Khan. My fascination for poetry really developed when I was in college. I later joined Imtiaz Ali’s theatre group where I would sing and compose for his plays in Delhi.”
So will he compose for films as well? “No, that’s like a hobby. There are so many super composers here.”

i wanted to post news of KAJRAREE but i got no reply from T-SERIES yet and HR’s bussiness producer Bhushan kumar talked about KAJRAREE and it releasing this year along with his other project PATALIA HOUSE which stars AKSHEY KUMAR. he said breifly about this during his interview on bollywoodhungama just days ago.
I still feel very certain it will come in mid APRIL probably in second week of APRIL. remember, it is HR himself who said KAJRAREE will come in APRIL this year just last month.
music must be coming in about 2 weeks i think.
forget about the release date of KAJRAREE on indiafm.com it is their estimate, it wont come in MARCH< i guarantee it.
HR is being very serious about this film after bad box office results of RADIO. HR definitely needs a HIT or at least an average performance and HR must be very careful about how KAJRAREE should work and must be planning a very superb, dhamake promo for it.
in the mean time, i am enjoying music of rADIO all the time.

Yar it luks that kajraare is still on hold n will surely not come in april. coz all other filmz of april have revield their promos but kajraare promo hasnt come yet. Delaying any more kajraare will only damage its hype, as every one knows that himeshji hasnt good image in bollywood as an actor so it will also damage the morale of film, I think that everyone here will b agreeing with me atleast on this matter.

unfortunately, there is a news that SHAAN’s team beat HR’s team IN 1ST SEMIFINAL match just yesterday. shooting happened just yesterday in india time on FEB 10.
i am sure the live anti HR audeince gave lower marks in the end to HR and th the opponent won.
it has been proven in this match. consistently giving low marks to HR’s team by the live audience in the end of the show.
its not a problem cos HR can still beat shaan or other 3 teams, semifinal is not over yet!

here is detail info on KAJRAREE music release date annoucned by HR on MKMM show,
HR announced this on FEB 2 during the taping of MKMM show, so one month could be in the end of FEB or in the first week of March.
kajraare is still postponding every time release date confirmed it became postpond. since 2008
i have a question in my mind. that many award ceremony happened recently but himesh wasn’t invited in the show. why why. or himesh didn’t went himself.
why himesh always absent in awards since 2007. my question is why.
will u keep talking like release date all the time or u will also talk about HR’s success story. his MKMM show AND HOW WE HAVE TO SUPPORT HIM?
his movies will release at their time and talking about release dates only won’t work.
we all know its coming in about 2 months so, in the meantime, support HR.
HR did not win awards cos so called fans never voted for him in awards list.
the so called fans only talk about how good his music is, instead of buying the CDs, watching his film at theaters, voting for his WIN at MKMM show and spread the greatness about HR.
wake up all the fans, lets support HR.
support means not just talking about him, it means doing something good for him.

I feel himesh might not win Mkmm (as he was sighed for 20 episodes) but we must support him at our level.

all HR fans,
whatever i write, its all for the greater benefit of HR. nothing i comment on this site is intended nagetively. i have never said anything nagative about anyone cos i have no reason to. so lets chill.
we must think hard and realize the reasons why HR hasn’t been as successful as he should be. his films flopping, and low votes he gets from general public on MKMM show.
also, him not getting awards is not HR’s problem, absolutely not. HR himself has been doing the best u can .
the little problem is, we the fans are not being as much supportive to HR as we should be.
we are not storming the theaters to watch his films, thats the reason RADIO was box office disaster.
we are not being very strong when it comes to voting for HR for his film , music or reality shows, that’s the result of HR not being even nominated for awards, getting low votes from public. do u know HR did not get the highest public votes on MKMM show? maybe u haven’t watched last saturday’s public voting results.
HR has mroe fans then shaan and other captains.
lots of HR fans are talking about HR’s films and musics on myspace and twitters, but only if they do something that is more fruitful and helpful to HR,
that would be better.
so lets work hard on supporting HR.

HR team has lost again against SHREYA.
this means HR team has only one chance to get to finale and that is public voting.
HR had to win against both shankar and shreya to get to final match but he lost to sherya so no options left except for massive public votes.
last week result showed that HR did not get most public voting.
chances are very low cos even though HR has so many fans around the world, they are not giving him enough votes like he used to get when HR was doing SAREGAMAPA.
it is disappointing, sad and shameful of the so called HR fans.
this match will be aired in 2 weeks cos this is the 4rth semifinal match shooting. it was shot just yesterday.
HR is the most senior judge, highest paid and most talented of this entire show and him losing this match is a big blow to HR’s reputation.
now I only wish that HR fans in india will not be KANJOOS of their money and send 20 SMS votes for HR team.
if we love HR,we must support him.
i am not gonna watch the finale matches if HR and his team is out of the show.

Its really sad Himesh lost to Shreya & Shaan. This is really heartbreaking news for me. To be very frank I am only angry against the format of the show which treat such great singers as participants. I really feel bad for himesh. The man who composed 500 songs and gave so many hits as singer is today treated as a ordinary participant.

This is test time for himesh reshammiya we can just support him at our best… rest is upto Almighty… This is like a new journey of Himeshji… forget that once he was a singer and a music director… he has come up as an actor now… he is a new comer… So himeshji’s journey has just begun…. It was almost three years ago when Himesh Reshammiya started hunting for directors to make him into a big star. He worked with some small directors and even tried to get in Satish Kaushik to direct him in Karzzz which failed followed by Radio. And now he has Pooja Bhatt’s film Kajraare to look forward to as well. Pooja has finally managed to finish the film and has taken it off her head and hands. In fact this is the longest time any film of hers has ever taken. “I am toasting the end of Kajraare from two years and seven months after it began,” she says. “I have cut and delivered the final edit. I am a freer woman now,” she smiles. Pooja and T Series did have a few problems between them earlier because she was not happy with the kind of production facilities they gave her and she opted for a production unit from Mukesh Bhatt.(indianfo.com)………now it all sums up that kajrares final product is ready…no wonder the promo isnt out…the producers might be waiting for the MNIK wave to pass buy….

The second is Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh Mudh Mudh? “My role in Mudh mudh ke.. is very different from the one I play in A New Love Ishtory,” says Niharika, “In Love Ishtory I play a rich successful businesswoman whereas in Mudh mudh ke.. I play a young NRI Gujrati girl who is modern and yet traditional at the same time. Another difference in both the films is that in Love Ishtory, Himesh is in love with me and in Mudh mudh ke.. I’m in love with him.”
Love Ishtory is being directed by John Matthew Mathan is an Indian film-maker who worked as an assistant director on Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.
