Exclusive Interview: Nitz n Sony (Naach Meri Bulbul ~ Hey Bro)

Published by at 11:42 pm under Exclusive Interviews

Hello Reshammiyans!

As we enjoy Himeshji’s first song (as a singer) in 2015 ‘Bulbul’ (Hey Bro), we bring you the chance to get to know the Music Directors of ‘Bulbul’ Nitz n Sony (Nitin Arora & Sony Chandy) and their experience of working with Himeshji, in this exclusive interview at Himesh-Reshammiya.com

1) Congratulations Nitz n Sony for the amazing response of Naach Meri Bulbul! Please share with us your experience of creating the song.

Both: Thank you so much for the wishes and Thank Youuuuuu to the audience for giving the song so much love and appreciation. It really means a lot to us! “Bulbul” is essentially the “Biggest Song” on the album. Be it visually, orchestrally, or be the Super Star presence of Himesh Reshammiya & Shreya Ghoshal. The requirement for the song came up in our 1st script narration. Ganesh Acharya and director Ajay Chandhok wanted a “Grand Song” for the introduction of the Villain in the film and the song was also to feature the gorgeous Mahie Gill in a guest appearance. That was our brief. So we decided upon creating a hard core Masala Song with heavy Indian rhythm, semi classical composition and spice it up instrumentally, with Western flavours.

After we had decided that, we needed a hook line which was resonant, catchy, had a great recall value and at the same time was simple. So we went down memory lane frisking through compositions and ideas we have accumulated over the last 12 years, that we’ve been pursuing film music for and we decided upon “Naach Meri Bulbul ke paisa milega, khaali fokat baithegi toh kaisa milega” Also, We would like to share with you how this line was composed. We’ve had our rough days in our 12 year long journey, especially when we had “financial problems” So one of those days, I was kind of worried as the pockets were going empty and I told Sony “Bhai paise khatam honey waaley hain, kya karengey?” Now Sony was either in a funny mood, or I guess to lighten up my mood, he responded with “Naach Meri bulbul ke paisa milega” and I replied, “khaali fokat baithengey toy kaisa milega?” We laughed & the stress was busted, but Yeah, The song was born.

So we dubbed that bit and filed it in our Pandora’s Music Box, for whenever it was destined to be recorded. Now this was around 6-7 years back, so when the situation in the film came up, we felt that this hook line went well with the introduction of a land mafia villain! We bounced it to Ganeshji and Ajayji who like always, decided to go ahead with our instinct and just said one line “Just give us a super hit song” Well, the best we could do was to give them a “Good Song” and so we have tried :-) and with thanks to the love of the audiences, I guess it’s headed the “SUPER HIT” way. The mighty Himeshji powered the song with his Electric Vocals & the Nightingale Shreyaji came in like a breeze and flowered the song The resultant combination turned out to be Dynamite!!! Then we layered the song with very heavy Indian Rhythm, Strings, Flute, Guitars, Shehnai, and chorus etc. Then you have to watch the video to see the gigantic proportions it has taken and we hope it keeps growing that way & finds more love & appreciation with the audience.

2) How did the idea of having Himeshji as the singer of your song, come about?

Both: After locking the genre of music for the song and the hook line, we composed the rest of the song and then called in our lyricist Pranav Vatsa to write the lyrics. Once that was done, we had to decide upon the voices. Shreyaji was a natural choice for this song for the female part. We have worked with her earlier and we were very sure that she would be perfect for this and I hope you’ll agree we were right! Now it was time to decide for the male voice. We wanted a “different” and “striking” voice for the main hook line, a voice with a lot of character and personality! A voice which announced in bold “I AM HERE” and the 1st name which came to our minds was Himesh Reshammiya!!!

3) Naach Meri Bulbul, is Himeshji’s second song as a singer outside of singing for his own compositions. Please share with us your experience of working with Himeshji on this song.

Both: We both got excited at the thought of “imagining” Himeshji sing those lines. But then on second thought we became a little sceptical, that he might not do it. As we had read somewhere that he had said in an interview, that he will sing only for ARRahman and no other Music Composer. But, then he sang a song for Salman Khan composed by Sajid Wajid. That gave us a little hope. Anyway, we thought to suggest it to Ganeshji and we also told him our apprehension. Ganeshji said we can try, “Himesh loves me a lot”. He smiled and dialled Himeshji’s number and said we want to meet. So we met him and Himeshji asked us to send him the song and that he would listen and revert. Once he heard the song, he immediately called back and happily agreed to sing. So we recorded him and trust me it was an amazing experience. Himeshji is very very humble and sweet! He put his heart into it and kept on giving takes without a frown, till we were satisfied. Himeshji is a very passionate person and we could feel him putting that passion into the rendition of the song. Well, it’s showing and we too are contented that we did justice to his voice. He was very happy after hearing the final master and congratulated us on the song. Himeshji has heard our other songs too and said that he loved our Music “DJ” is his favourite :-)

4) Can we expect any future collaborations with Himeshji?

Both: Well, we would love to! In fact, we would like to compose for one of Himeshji’s films. It could really be an interesting experience, as we would be able to explore & bring forth many more “Yet Un-explored” shades of Himeshji’s Voice. But of course it all depends on how HR fans take that idea and most importantly how Himeshji finds it..! He’s already been kind enough to lend his lovely “personality” to our song “Bulbul” We can’t ask for more, but yeah as you asked. This would be something we can really wish for.

5) You have both started your journey in the music industry since 2005. Please share with us your experience so far.

Both: Yes. It’s been a long yet amazing journey :-) Actually, we know each other since 2001 & started making Music together since 2003. We both are basically Hotel Management Graduates from PUSA & have worked with 5-Star Hotels before getting into Music full-time.

Sony: I was a chef with Hotel Leela Mumbai, when I met Nitz. We used to stay together & have music jamming sessions. Before I finally quit my job & started working on our 1st project together

Nitz: I was last running a 5-Star Resort in Shimla as a Resident Manager after having associated with Rajputana Sheraton Jaipur & JP Palace Agra, before I decided to shift to Mumbai & pursue my Bollywood dream..So I came to Mumbai on 14th January 2001 & started off as an actor, & this is when I met Sony. We shared a place with mine & his common hotelier friends. He worked with Leela’s & I was pursuing acting. But we both wished to make Music together. So after I worked in Harry Baweja’s “Qayamat” (starring Ajay Devgn in a negative role), I requested Harryji to give us a chance to compose 1 song for one of his upcoming projects. Harryji promised me that if he liked the song he would. We played him a song & he loved it! We got our 1st release :-) So, our first “Song” released (2006) was for the Film “Teesri Aankh” starring Sunny Deol & Amisha Patel. We recorded the song in the voice of Asha Bhosle in December 2005

Sony: & Yeah, the beautiful lyrics for the song were written by Nitz himself. Credited as Nitin ‘Nitz’ Arora. Ashaji had complimented him for the lyrics too.

6) Share with us details of your forthcoming projects

Both: Well, our forthcoming project is “HEY BRO” :-) Releasing on 27th February 2015 Worldwide. Do watch the film with your family and friends and please support our Music.
Listen! Enjoy! Love! Share!
Once again, Thank You “Jem Raj “for this interview and for running this lovely website.
It’s nice to connect with so many HR fans and I hope Himeshji will not mind sharing them with us…lol Looking forward to your love, support & appreciation. Let the Music Play!
Love, Luck & God Bless you all. Nitz ‘N’ Sony.

Thank you so much Nitin and Sony for taking time out and giving us such a wonderful interview! I very much look forward to you working with Himeshji in the future. All the very best for Hey Bro and all your future projects. Reshammiyans, to stay up to date with Nitz n Sony, you can follow them at twitter: @NitznSony
