He has created wonderful remixes of Himeshji’s super hit songs from movies such as Aksar, Red, Dil Diya Hai and more. His most recent remix is the House Mix of the Aap Se Mausiiquii title track. Please share with us your journey in the Bollywood Music industry so far.

Well it has been a real pleasure and pride being a part of the Bollywood industry, yes I have had my ups and lows as I sail along working hard. Being dedicated to my work and focused is what has kept me going, I have had the pleasure of interacting with the tops and the best of Bollyworld, and I’m really very fortunate to be in it.

I am a huge fan of your earlier work with Himeshji. The remixes that you gave us in albums such as Aksar, Aap Ki Khatir, Dil Diya Hai and Red are just some of my favourites! Your remixes presented Himeshji’s songs in another level. Please share with us your experience of working with Himeshji during this golden era of Music.

I’m a big fan of Himesh ji too. I love his enthusiasm and the zest while he is at work, he is dipped into music from the bottom of his soul and heart and I really admire that about him as at the end it shows when his songs hit the top of the charts. I have remixed over 70 songs of Himesh ji including films and his albums right from Just Chill, Ashique Banaya Aapne till Karzzzz, and now Aap Se Mausiiquii, and counting. The reason behind all the hit remixes is that the fact that he lets me do my job, there’s zero interference, he truly understands and trusts me to do my music business, and I do my best to do justice to the songs as he also gives me the time and space, and so the work goes to another level. I guess we also have a super connection.

How does it feel to be working with Himeshji after a few years on his highly awaited second private album ‘Aap Se Mausiiquii’?

The minute I saw Himesh ji’s name flashing on my cell I felt really excited and nostalgic, and then we spoke about the album and the styling of the soundtracks and tons of sound samples and different concepts of arrangements that I have been thinking about for some time started running in my mind, I was hoping that I would get the kind of songs from him in which I could implement those thoughts and bang on he made me smile.

How does it feel to be working with HR Musik?

For me it’s like working at home whenever I have worked with HR Musik, especially the staff and crew here is just perfect for artist like me to work with. HR Musik is also coming up with a lot of great talent and surprises so keep your eyes and ears right here.

Without revealing too much, please share with us your thought process when it comes to remixing a song.

The one most important thing about remixing any song is to understand the family and roots which it belongs to and also the genre and then the musical elements and styling of the sounds that goes into it.

Is it easier or harder to remix a song of a slower tempo?

It’s never difficult to remix a song of a lower tempo. The only issue that one has to keep in mind is the Vocals shouldn’t be running and sounding like the singer is in a big hurry lollll, speeding up the tempo which is happening a lot nowadays is not the best option, I’d probably keep the same tempo or maybe pick up just a bit to make it more pumped up and dance floor friendly. I first listen to the original song many times before deciding on the tempo to make it just right and not too fast for no reason, and if that happens the song loses its beauty and soul.

Is there any song of Himeshji’s that you wish you had remixed or would like to remix?

I would love to Remix most of the songs from “Tere Naam” I love the way Himesh ji has composed the music for this film.

What do you think of the whole ‘mashup’ theme that we have been hearing lately, and can we expect something like this for the ‘Aap Se Mausiiquii’ album?

Well mashups have its own audiences who like to listen to just one or two lines of a song and it moves to another one. It’s like listening to a song sampler. No I’m not a big fan of mashups, maybe if it’s made taking two songs its fine but not more than two. Confusion

Please share with us details of your upcoming projects.

I’m working on a few singles and an Album as of now. The two singles are nearly ready for the videos. It’ll be shot in London during December. As it’s called “London Is Cold” and the album is Indian flavoured with Sufism and Qawali funk, with 8 tracks on it. It will also have a 2017 version of my hit track JALWA.

Thank you so much DJ Akbar Sami for taking the time out and sharing your experiences with us! Reshammiyans, stay up to date with DJ Akbar Sami by following him at his social media: twitter @akbar_sami
